Registration Open for 2013 Whiskey Off-Road

Mountain bike event features $35,000 purse.

November 1, 2012

Tucson, Ariz. – Registration opens today for the pro category of the 2013 Whiskey Off-Road endurance mountain bike event taking place in Prescott, Ariz. The online registration form and cash purse information can be found here.

Registration opened at 9 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Thursday, November 1. Boasting the world’s largest one-day cash purse in mountain biking to the tune of $35,000, event organizer Epic Rides expects to sell all 150 entries in a very short timeframe. Pro males and females are compensated equally for their efforts at the Whiskey Off-Road, featuring a cash purse split right down the middle.

Defending Pro Male Geoff Kabush (SCOTT-3Rox Racing) is confirmed to be in attendance, as will a number of his teammates to help him capture the coveted title on Whiskey Row for the second year in a row. But Kabush and his crew will face the likes of an increasingly deep field, with three of the top five 2012 Pro male finishers hailing from outside the United States.

“The Whiskey Off-Road is a template for what a great mountain bike weekend should look like,” said Kabush. “The festive atmosphere, great riding, superb coverage and unique location make it a memorable weekend for riders of all ability. It’s awesome to see how the whole town of Prescott gets behind the event, and the opportunity to win some big money is definitely appreciated.”

The 2012 Whiskey Off-Road saw nearly double the women registered from 2011 with a total of 40, and for 2013, Epic Rides anticipates in excess of 55 females gunning for the big prize. Defending champion Monique “Pua” Mata (Team Sho-Air/Specialized) is returning with her entire teams support, but she’ll have her work cut out with the majority of last year’s female field having already confirmed interest in returning to vie for the increased purse.

“Pro or not, the whole experience is no less than first class,” said Mata. “It isn’t often you come to an event with a phenomenal course where the streets of downtown are blocked off for days, the community comes out to cheer you on, bands are playing and Mayor Marlin is shaking your hand with a smile on his face.”

Todd Sadow, President of Epic Rides looks forward to not only expanding the appeal of the Whiskey Off-Road as a family-friendly community event of 2,000 participants,

(1,850 amateur/150 professional) but also as a spectacle of professional sport on an international level.

“Occurring a week after the Sea Otter Classic and a month before the first UCI World Cup event, the 2013 Whiskey Off-Road is perfectly scheduled for international talent to go for their share of the historic cash purse,” said Sadow.

The 2013 Whiskey Off-Road will take place Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28, featuring three days of nonstop entertainment from live music on the courthouse lawn to family friendly events and activities happening right in the epicenter of Whiskey Row. Mountain bikes will be the vehicle of choice all weekend, with a Pro-level fat tire Criterium and a beginner level “15 proof” fun ride (one proof = one mile) kicking off the weekend on Friday evening along with a industry vendor and tech expo. Saturday is packed with action from sunup to sundown and beyond, featuring the 25 and 50 proof distances amidst a crowd of more than 10,000 cheering spectators. Sunday the Pro male and female main events roll out of town with a shotgun blast in a dash for the largest one-day cash purse in mountain biking.

Pro registrants will need to attach a race resume to their registration form in order to gain entry into the 2013 Whiskey Off-Road. When completing the online registration form, the applicant will be prompted when appropriate to attach their resume.

Amateur registration opens Tuesday afternoon, January 1. The amateur category will be limited to 1,850 participants.
