Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at Duthie Hill Park Saturday

October 2, 2012

Seattle, Wash. – On Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance and Cascade Bicycle Club will host young riders up to age 16 for Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (TKMBD); a FREE youth mountain biking event at King County’s Duthie Hill Park in Issaquah. The event will include trail riding, an obstacle course for the little ones, an exciting jump show from local and pro riders, a free barbecue, and tons of prizes.

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is an annual celebration that strives to encourage communities around the world to join together and ride mountain bikes with youth. Last year, TKMBD had more than 13,000 participants at hundreds of events across the globe. More than 100 kids came out to ride at the 2011 Duthie Hill TKMB event alone!

The event is free and open to all ages. Parents are welcome to ride with their kids too. Local sponsors of the 2012 Duthie Hill TKMBD include Gregg’s Cycles, REI, Clif Bar and Gerks.

Besides being good, healthy outdoor fun, the goal of the event is to develop a connection between kids and the natural world around them. “Exposing kids to mountain biking and the outdoors is an important part of what we do through our education program,” says Evergreen’s Communication and Membership Director, Stacy Karacostas. “TKMBD is a great way to get kids hooked on a fun and healthy activity while creating the next generation of outdoor athletes and advocates”.

Supported by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and Trips for Kids (an organization with chapters nationwide that has been helping disadvantaged kids discover mountain biking since 1988), TKMBD celebrates the life of Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who had a true passion for the sport from an early age to the time when he passed away in 2002.
