Local Ride/Dr. Vie Superfoods+ Riders Win Six Canadian Titles
Maple Ridge based team cleans up at Canadian Track Championships.
September 26, 2012
Maple Ridge, BC – Gillian Carleton (Victoria), Steph Roorda (Vancouver), and Laura Brown (Vancouver) of the Maple Ridge based elite women’s road and track cycling team Local Ride/Dr. Vie Superfoods+, sponsored by Local Ride Bike Shop and Dr. Vie Superfoods+, snapped up six Canadian titles between them at the Canadian Track Cycling Championships in Dieppe, NB, September 12-17.
“We expected to do well at the National Championships,” said Team Manager and Local Ride Bike Shop Owner Barry Lyster. “All three women were on the Olympic shortlist, Gillian [Carleton] was on the bronze medal winning Team Pursuit squad in London, and Laura [Brown] went to London as an alternate. They have all been on international podiums, but it’s great to see them continue on with their incredibly successful seasons.”
The trio kicked off their winning spree on Day One with a team victory in their specialty event, the Women’s Team Pursuit. Carleton went on to bring home the red-and-white champion’s jersey in the Points Race, Individual Pursuit, 500m Time Trial, and the Omnium classification. Roorda won the Scratch Race national title and placed second in the Points Race, Individual Pursuit, and in the Omnium, while Brown scored a second place finish in the Scratch Race and the 500m Time Trial, and third in the Omnium.
“To be honest, I haven’t been on the track since coming back from London [Olympic Games], so coming here [Dieppe] was my first time feeling that speed, and pushing a big gear so it was a little shock to the system,” said Carleton.
The Local Ride/Dr. Vie Superfoods+ team will now shift its focus to the cyclo-cross discipline with races running in the B.C. Lower Mainland most weekends through November, including the Sixth Annual Pumpkin Cross cyclo-cross race presented by Local Ride Bike Shop in Maple Ridge on October 28, and the prestigious Canadian Cyclo-Cross Championships to be held in South Surrey on November 17.
