Performance Bicycle Promotes Recycling Used Tubes, Tires and Chains

September 13, 2012

Performance Bicycle has partnered with Liberty Tire Recycling and Resource Revival to encourage bicycle owners to recycle used bicycle parts with their “Tube, Tire and Chain Recycling” initiative. Store locations nationwide feature blue containers for bicyclists to recycle their old or blown-out tires and tubes.

The used bicycle parts will be recycled into mulch for playgrounds, athletic fields and highway asphalt, amongst many other uses. Used chains will be re-purposed into fun and functional gifts and promotional items for cyclists. Since 1994, Resource Revival has been hand- making new products out of recycled bicycles parts, including bottle openers, picture frames and bike chain bowls.

“The Tube, Tire and Chain Recycling” initiative is the first national effort and promotes increased awareness of the environmental sustainability of cycling. Liberty Tire Recycling is the nation’s largest collector of used and scrap tires. The company collects and recycles nearly one-third of all of America’s annual scrap tire material and has cleaned up more than 150 dump sites littered with nearly 40 million scrap tires—more than any other organization.
