14th Annual Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge Nears
July 3, 2012
Portland, Ore. –The anticipation is growing as the 14th annual Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge nears. This 3-day competition draws in athletes from all over the world highlighting elite track cyclists, national and international athletes, Olympians and local elite riders all competing for track records and cash prizes.
The Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge is a one of a kind spectator event, unique for its caliber of competitors, venue, and challenging course. The event is drawing in elite women, men and masters 40+ and it will deliver $13,000 in prizes, making this event one of the richest track races in the country competing for track records and gaining prestige.
Known for its distinctive shape, the Alpenrose Velodrome is one of only 20 bicycle racing tracks in the nation and is considered among the most demanding due to its shape and incline. With corners positioned at a 44-degree angle, racers must maintain a constant speed of 12.5 miles per hour in order to remain upright on the track, which won’t be a problem for these world class athletes who will reach speeds up to 40mph. In addition to being one of the steepest banks in the nation, the track is also unique in that it is made of concrete; while most others are wooden.
The Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge takes place on July 13, 14, and 15 — this free three-day event will be a thrill for all spectators to see the raw talent of these athletes. Also, come to enjoy great food, and take advantage of the opportunity to shop for heavily discounted cycling attire.
The Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge is free for spectators and is located at 6149 Southwest Shattuck Road, off Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway. For more information, visit: www.alpenrosechallenge.com.
