Hesjedal Enjoys Another Day in Pink

Ryder Hesjedal, the first Canadian to ever lead the Giro d'Italia enjoyed a second day in pink. The Victoria, BC native made Canadian sport history on Saturday May 12 when he was awarded the pink jersey at the conclusion of stage 7 in which he placed fifth.

Hesjedal had to dig deep on the final climb at the end of stage 8 to keep his "maillot rose" with a small nine-second margin over Katusha's Joaquim Rodriguez.
Well-supported throughout stage 9 by his Garmin-Barracuda's teammate, Hesjedal came in seventh to enjoy another day in the lead.
Stage 10, on Tuesday, will see the riders cover 187 km between Civitavecchia and Assisi skirting the western edge of the Apennine ridge.
