Get Up and Ride National Bike Challenge

May 1, 2012

The League of American Bicyclists, Bikes Belong, along with Kimberly-Clark and Endomondo, have launched a new program to encourage people to ride their bikes for transportation or recreation. The goal is to get 50,000 people to bike 10 million miles between May 1 and August 31. The friendly competition pins participating states against states, communities against communities in the quest for the title of the largest number of riders and greatest mileage total.

Anyone living in the U.S. can sign up either as an individual or as a member of a team in any of the sixteen categories. The contest provides for monthly prize drawing incentives and overall Challenge awards. Riders get one point per each mile ridden and 20 points for each day they get on the bike. Prize levels vary based on the number of points one earns. There is no cost to register for the Challenge and miles can easily be logged using either a free Endomondo smart phone App or the information can easily be entered directly on the website.

Currently 145 riders have signed up in Washington, 80 in Oregon, and 47 in Idaho, far behind the 1, 662 Wisconsin count. To sign up visit www.endomondo.com.
