Central Oregon Scenic Bikeway Workshop on May 22
April 26, 2012
Sisters, Ore. - The Oregon Tourism Commission (dba Travel Oregon) and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will present the “Oregon Scenic Bikeways Bicycle Tourism Studio” on May 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at FivePine Lodge Conference Center (1021 Desperado Trail). This free, community-based planning program will focus on how you can help promote and leverage the four Scenic Bikeways designated in Central Oregon; the Twin Bridges Loop, McKenzie Pass, Sisters to Smith Rock State Park, and Metolius Loops.
Cyclists, community leaders, bike enthusiasts, business owners and residents are invited to attend the workshop. Bike travel is a rapidly increasing segment of travel in North America. In 2011, 4.5 million visitors to the state of Oregon rode a bicycle during their visit. Of those visitors, 64% indicated that cycling was the primary purpose of their trip. Come learn about the growing cycling tourism market and foster key connections with regional, state and national organizations. Help focus community energy on the development of necessary infrastructure, business services and marketing activities to make Central Oregon the premier cycling destinations in the state.
Nine routes across Oregon have been designated “Scenic Bikeways,” four of which are in Central Oregon. Bikeways are selected as outstanding representatives of Oregon’s stunning scenic beauty. Each of these Bikeways can help Central Oregon attract a bigger portion of the 1.3 million visitors who come to Oregon for cycling each year, spending more than $170 million on lodging, meals, recreation and retail (Longwoods International 2010 Oregon Cyclist Visitor Analysis).
An RSVP is required to attend this free workshop; lunch will be included. Please RSVP to Erin Borla, Executive Director of the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, at 541-549-0251 or via email to Erin@SistersCountry.com.
