Thank You, It Has Been a Good Ride
By Jay Stilwell
For the last 16 years I have been the co-publisher of Bicycle Paper. One of the longest tenures of any of the publication’s owners, it has been a source of many accomplishments. Bicycle Paper was the first periodical in Seattle to publish my photos and articles. It has provided a birthplace of new ideas for its parent company, Seattle Publishing, that goes well beyond bicycling. As the season winds down, Seattle Publishing has decided that the fall issue of Bicycle Paper will be the last printed edition to be distributed under the current ownership and that at the close of the year, we will cease to publish it online. It is with mixed emotions that I write this farewell to Bicycle Paper’s dedicated readers, advertisers and contributors. After many years of operating two separate businesses, it is time to simplify, and for Seattle Publishing it means devoting all of our energy and focus towards our corporate clients.
As we part, I would like to thank Bicycle Paper’s editor of 15 years, Claire Bonin, whose dedication and efforts have made the publication, the website and the annual guides, world class publications we are all proud of.
The love for cycling has not left us and we will recall fondly our time with Bicycle Paper. We are currently seeking new owners to carry on the 44-year legacy of covering cycling in the Northwest and hope that Bicycle Paper will have a new home by year’s end.
Thanks for reading and keep the rubber side down.
